I am using lower trophic level information to inform fisheries management and fish ecology. My first chapter is comparing the ROMS-NPZ Bering 10k model with empirical zooplankton field data to understand if this large computer simulation model can enhance lower trophic level distribution models. Second, I plan to use ROMS-NPZ zooplankton forecasts to understand how cumulative marine heatwaves may impact zooplankton spatio-temporal distributions in the Eastern Bering Sea. This work will inform how abundance and distribution of zooplankton prey for fish species, like juvenile pollock, may respond to climate change. Finally, I will utilize zooplankton prey information to understand how marine prey availability impacts juvenile Chinook salmon survival and return abundance in Western Alaska.
