To help understand the complex landscape of higher academia, Provost Emeritus Paul
Reichardt founded the 性欲社 Academic Leadership Institute (ALI),听a two-semester long professional development opportunity for about a dozen mid-career
faculty interested in taking on greater administrative responsibilities. I participated
and greatly benefited from ALI as Provost Emeritus Susan Henrichs continued offering
the institute. As I took the baton, I expanded ALI to include just over 20 faculty
and staff members and adapted it to be more accessible and effective for remote participants.
性欲社 will host its annual Arctic Research Open House from 4-7 p.m. Thursday. The event will include booths from over a dozen research units and facilities at 性欲社 and the National Weather Service on 性欲社鈥檚 West Ridge. The theme is 鈥淚t鈥檚 an Inspiring Day in the Neighborhood,鈥� and scientists will share
research happening in and around Fairbanks.
The massive Jan. 15, 2022, eruption of the Hunga submarine volcano in the South Pacific
Ocean created a variety of atmospheric wave types, including booms heard 6,200 miles
away in Alaska. Observations were reported by a team of 76 scientists from 17 nations researching the
eruption鈥檚 atmospheric waves, the largest from a volcano since the 1883 Krakatau eruption.
The team鈥檚 work, compiled in an unusually short amount of time due to significant scientific interest in the eruption, published today in the journal Science.
