Welcome to Week 6!Ìý

Today we passed the 9 hours of daylight mark here in the Interior of Alaska. It feels wonderful. We are gaining at nearly 7 minutes per day and fast marching toward the bright warmth of spring. Sometimes it doesn’t feel that way but have faith. Gloriously warm and bright days are coming!

Time is racing but don’t go wishing your days away! Within a heartbeat you’ll be staring down the halfway point in our semester adventure, launching into spring break, and then racing to the end of the term. It is happening that fast. Time to focus and lay down your best performance. Your work each day matters so much; it is all about the accumulation of effort toward your goal.

Speaking of which, what is your plan for mid-terms? Are you going to do better than you’ve ever done before? What worked last time? What strategies were less successful? Did you hit the books with friends, try a study group, or maybe have a family member quiz you? What is your game? Consider yourself a pro athlete, and just like professional athletes, there is a lot of science behind what works well on mid-terms. Here are from the Princeton Review.

As I mentioned last week, this is Spring Career Fair Week! You can connect with potential employers, explore career paths, and expand your professional network. Here's why you won't want to miss out:

  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with professionals in your field, expand your contacts, and cultivate valuable relationships to propel your career forward.

  • Explore Career Paths: Discover various avenues within different industries, explore new interests, and gain clarity on potential career trajectories to align with your aspirations.

  • Gain Insights: Access valuable knowledge, industry trends, and insider perspectives to stay informed and make informed decisions in your professional endeavors.

  • Practice Communication Skills: Hone your ability to articulate ideas, engage with diverse audiences, and convey information effectively in both professional and personal settings.

  • Get Inspired: Draw motivation, creativity, and fresh perspectives from the experiences and achievements of others to fuel your journey toward success and fulfillment.

Things to Attend:Ìý

  • Nominate a student - Deadline is Feb. 23 by 5 p.m.

Each spring, the Student-Faculty Awards Committee solicits nominations for the annual Outstanding Graduating Student Awards to an outstanding graduating woman, man, and non-traditional student. Please submit your nominations! Ìý

    • Joel Wiegert Award, Outstanding Associate Degree Candidate

Mid-terms are coming. Focus. Put in the time. The human brain, your human brain, has amazing learning capacity if you provide enough time and focus on what is to be learned. Eat well. Get good rest. Prepare for the big game. There is no substitute for your time and dedication.

How can we better prepare to help you succeed here at ÐÔÓûÉç? Let me know at obguthrie@alaska.edu.
