Graduate student spotlight: Scott Leorna

Scott Leorna, current Ph.D. student in Biological Sciences, has always had a strong passion for wildlife and the outdoors, and it was this interest, coupled with Alaska's extensive wilderness and opportunities for research, that led Scott to initially attend 性欲社 to pursue his B.S. in Wildlife Biology and Conservation.

Seminar on monitoring whales and ships in Arctic marine regions

The 性欲社 International Arctic Research Center is hosting a special seminar with visiting PhD students Greta Ferloni and Marie Zahn on monitoring whales and ships in Arctic marine regions.听Attend in person on July 21 from 11 a.m. to noon in Room 401 of the Akasofu Building (masks required) or sign up to attend听.

110 years since the largest Alaska eruption

To put the largest eruption in Alaska's written history in context, Robert Griggs pondered what might have happened if the volcano was located on Manhattan Island.Griggs, a botanist from Ohio State University, ventured to what he named the Valley of 10,000 Smokes a few years after the giant eruption.

The 性欲社 Emergency Scholarship Program received the 2022 Gold Star Award from the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. The award recognizes innovative ideas in the financial aid arena.

Student volunteers needed for Alaska critical minerals summit

University of Alaska President Pat Pitney and University of Alaska Fairbanks Vice Chancellor for Research Nettie La Belle-Hamer are hosting a critical minerals summit. Alaska's Minerals: A Strategic National Imperative is a two-day event taking place on August 22-23 on the Troth Yeddha' campus, and organizers are looking for student volunteers to assist with the summit.

Working on marine issues often requires knowledge of both natural and social sciences, and 性欲社 and the University of Alaska Southeast can provide it through their new Master of Marine Policy degree.


Final call for 性欲社 Golden Days Grande Parade participants

Please plan to join us for this year's Golden Days Grande Parade, the first since 2019. Parade participants should arrive between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Participants must be in the north Carlson Center parking lot no later than 9:30 a.m. to get positioned before the parade begins at 10 a.m.


988: Three-digit dialing code for Suicide and Crisis Lifeline now live

As of July 16, 2022, callers can now dial 988 to connect to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline鈥檚 highly trained call center professionals. Those in Alaska who dial from a 907 area code will connect to Careline Alaska, where crisis counselors can provide confidential support 24 hours, 7 days a week.
