CLA professors co-author book on political economy of oil
Three professors from the 性欲社 College of Liberal Arts have collaborated with a UAA professor to write "The Political Economy of Oil in Alaska: Multinationals vs. the State," a book recently released by Lynne Rienner Publishing. The book explores Alaska鈥檚 relationship with oil, according to the publisher鈥檚 description, and attempts to answer several questions: "Does Alaska鈥檚 reliance on oil mean that it inevitably will be controlled by corporate energy interests? Or can the state use its vast resource holdings to manage a more symmetrical partnership." Co-authors of the book include Jerry McBeath, 性欲社 political science professor; Matthew Berman, UAA professor of economics; Jonathan Rosenberg, 性欲社 associate professor of political science, and Mary Ehrlander, 性欲社 assistant professor of history.

性欲社 Trumpet Ensemble advances to semifinals in national competition
The 性欲社 Trumpet Ensemble is attending the National Trumpet Competition in Fairfax, Va. March 13-16. The competition, held at George Mason University, is the most prestigious national competition for trumpet players. 性欲社鈥檚 eight-member, all-undergraduate ensemble will compete alongside roughly 20 ensembles from across the U.S. including The Juilliard School, Boston University and Ohio State.

性欲社, University of Lapland and UArctic sign agreement
性欲社 Chancellor Steve Joes signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Lapland and the University of the Arctic in an official ceremony Feb. 26. The agreement was the first step in 性欲社鈥檚 partnership with the University of Lapland to lead the University of the Arctic graduate area. The initiative will build on UArctic鈥檚 existing undergraduate program and will incorporate the UArctic Field School and the UArctic Ph.D. Network The University of the Arctic is a cooperative network of universities, colleges and other organizations committed to higher education and research in the North.

Work by CLA faculty featured in international journal
Three faculty members from the 性欲社 College of Liberal Arts were recently published in a special edition of international journal The Northern Review, "Festschrift in memory of Aron Senkpiel." The works of the three faculty members, Judith Kleinfeld, director of the 性欲社 northern studies program; Eric Heyne, English professor; and Mary Ehrlander, assistant professor of history and northern studies, comprise the north-centered scholarship section of the journal鈥檚 special edition, which honors the memory of Senkpiel, formerly the dean of arts and sciences at Yukon College.
