Alaska 4-H will celebrate National 4-H Week Oct. 5–11 with activities, including a national science experiment.

Oct. 8 is 4-H National Youth Science Day, and Alaska youths and 4-H members in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Palmer, Soldotna, Kodiak, Sitka and on all Army and Air Force installations may participate in the β€œRockets to the Rescue” experiment. The Anchorage activity will be on Oct. 3. Participants will design and build an aerodynamic food transportation device that can deliver a payload of nutritious food to disaster victims. They will learn engineering concepts and about nutrition, develop math skills and help address a global issue.

Several 4-H offices will also host open houses during the week. Local agents, leaders and club members will offer information about 4-H, which is the nation’s largest youth development program. ΠΤΣϋΙη Cooperative Extension Service administers the Alaska 4-H program statewide.

For more information about National 4-H Week or National Youth Science Day, contact local 4-H offices or Deb Jones, the state 4-H program leader, at deb.jones@alaska.edu or 877-520-5211.
