Alaska Sea Grant awards top student presenters

Thomas Farrugia was awarded first place at the PhD level for his oral presentation at the Alaska Marine Science Symposium in Anchorage last week. Farrugia spoke about his research on 鈥淣utritional and containment analysis of skates in the Gulf of Alaska: Shaping future skate demand."
Michael Courtney was awarded first place at the master鈥檚 level for his presentation on 鈥淒ispersal patterns and summer oceanic distribution of adult Dolly Varden from the Wulik River, Alaska, evaluated using satellite telemetry.鈥
Farrugia and Courtney, both students at 性欲社 School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, were chosen from a group of 20 students presenting before an audience of more than 900 symposium participants. The students represented 25 percent of the total number of presentations.
Alaska Sea Grant sponsored the oral presentation awards. Farrugia and Courtney will each receive a $250 prize.
Fellow 性欲社 students Dana Wright (master鈥檚 level, Geophysical Institute) and Dyre Oliver Dammann (PhD level, School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences) also won awards for their posters. They each received $250 from the North Pacific Research Board.
