Birch tapping class offered in Palmer

The Matanuska Experiment Farm in Palmer will offer two birch-tapping classes April 20, one from 10 a.m. to noon and the other from 1 to 3 p.m.

During each class, participants will learn how to select the right trees, tap trees while caring for them, and collect sap and cook it for syrup.

The cost is $10 per person and includes handouts and taps. There will be free activities for youths ages 8 to 14 who come with an adult. Participants should dress for the outdoors. Registration and payment are required by April 19. Call 907-745-3360 or visit .
