CFOS Seminar: Issues of scale
March 22, 2021
The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences will hold its weekly seminar on Wednesday, March 24, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. via Zoom. The talk will be offered by Thomas TinHan, a postdoctoral researcher in the Boswell Lab for Marine Ecology and Acoustics at Florida International University.
"Issues of Scale: Complementary Techniques for the Study of Fish Migration"
TinHan鈥檚 research is focused on understanding fish migration and distribution as a
consequence of habitat requirements and environmental variability. Knowledge of the
physical and biological processes mediating migrations, and the overall success of
fishes at each stage, is critical to our understanding of the diversity of fishes,
their population dynamics, and their effective management. However, these processes
are notoriously challenging to study in long-lived, highly migratory taxa, many of
which also experience intense fishing pressure. His presentation will explore the
use of natural and electronic tags to address challenges posed by sharks and other
enigmatic megafauna.
