Every third Thursday of the month, the Office of Information Technology and eLearning join forces to host a faculty development session. This Thursday at noon in Bunnell 319B, faculty are encouraged to participate in 鈥淭he Zen of Teaching: Being Present With (and for) Your Students."

Brooke Sheridan, a 性欲社 eLearning instructional designer, will cover ways that technology can help you be there for your students without crossing into the boundaries of your personal life, from Google Hangouts to email to shared calendars. She'll also cover the distinction between synchronous and asynchronous communication in online classrooms and what factors should be considered when faculty are creating their course calendars. Martin Miller, of OIT, will discuss the use of Blackboard Collaborate to facilitate presence and participation.

Pizza will be provided. There is limited seating, so email Gary Bender at gabender@alaska.edu to RSVP.

Join us every third Thursday of the month for hands-on activities exploring best practices in technology and education with experts in both fields from 性欲社 eLearning and OIT. These hourlong sessions will present new ideas for your classroom, whether you鈥檙e teaching face-to-face, fully online or some combination of both. Go to for upcoming Third Thursday events.
