Molecular biologist joins Native health research center

Andrej Podlutsky has joined the Center for Alaska Native Health Research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Podlutsky, appointed as an associate professor of molecular biology, plans to study DNA repair in Alaska Native people and how it relates to cancer. Alaska Natives have high rates of cancer incidences and deaths and Podlutsky hopes his research will shed light on molecular mechanisms that defends against, or, predispose to cancer.
He did similar work with Hodgkin鈥檚 lymphoma patients at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Greehey Children鈥檚 Cancer Research Institute and Barshop Institute on Longevity and Aging Studies.
Podlutsky earn a master's degree in molecular genetics at the Kharkov State University and a doctorate in molecular biology, biophysics from the Institute Theoretical and Experimental Biophysics.
