Active-duty military personnel and up to four members of their immediate families can visit the University of Alaska Museum of the North for free this year, under a new program made possible by Wells Fargo.

鈥淚n Alaska, many of our Wells Fargo team members have family ties and community connections with the military,鈥 said Wells Fargo northern Alaska district manager Vicki Kennebec. 鈥淲e hope Alaska鈥檚 military families enjoy free admission to the UA Museum of the North. It is an honor for Wells Fargo to serve those who have served our country.鈥

A $25,000 gift from Wells Fargo to the museum will cover the admission costs. The museum will announce the new program formally at its annual open house on Saturday, Jan. 25, at noon.

For the past decade, Wells Fargo has partnered with the UA Museum of the North to support Alaska鈥檚 military and their families. As part of a $35 million commitment to help veterans and military families with sustainable housing, career transition and financial education, Wells Fargo recently presented $75,000 to four nonprofit organizations supporting Alaska military service members, veterans and their families. In November, Wells Fargo and Operation Homefront donated a mortgage-free home to an Alaska Army Reserve soldier in Anchorage.

Wells Fargo has been in Alaska since 1916. Its 900 team members in the state serve customers through 57 banking, mortgage, investment and insurance offices from Ketchikan to Barrow. The company invests $1.5 million each year in more than 300 nonprofits and schools in Alaska.

鈥淎laska is home to two large military installations, and military members play an important role in our community,鈥 said UA Museum of the North director Aldona Jonaitis. 鈥淲e are proud to partner with Wells Fargo to say 鈥榯hank you鈥 to the large military populations in our region.鈥

To receive free admission to the museum, military personnel must present their current ID at the admissions desk. For more information, call 907-474-7505.
