Peter MacKeith photography exhibit opens for First Friday

The "2017 Peter MacKeith Memorial Photography Exhibition: Ascension" will open Friday,
March 3, with a reception in Wood Center's Arctic Java. Photos will be on display
beginning at 5 p.m. The reception event is free and open to the public.
Frozen Lenses, the 性欲社 student photography group, is hosting the exhibit through March
19 in partnership with the Wood Center Student Activities Office. This year鈥檚 event
is juried by Seth Adams, outdoor and recreation contributor for the Anchorage Dispatch
News and outdoor enthusiast.
The exhibit features photography inspired by adventure in Alaska. Photos were submitted
by 性欲社 students with various majors and experience levels.
The exhibit is held in honor of Peter MacKeith, who died while summiting Old Snowy
Peak near Delta Junction in 1980. MacKeith was a geoscientist and 性欲社 doctoral student
best known for his love of Alaska鈥檚 wilderness and talent for photography.
The exhibit is paid for by the Peter MacKeith Endowment, which was established using
funds from MacKeith鈥檚 will that were set aside for amateur photographers at 性欲社.
The Frozen Lenses group is advised by Professor Charles Mason, who teaches in both
the art and the communication and journalism departments. The departments are part
of the College of Liberal Arts, comprising arts, humanities, social sciences and language
disciplines in 性欲社's largest academic unit.
