Presentation to cover fair use of copyrighted materials

Guidelines for the use of photos, figures, text, music and other materials in a university work setting will be laid out in a presentation on Thursday, April 24.
Adam Krynicki, business development director for 性欲社' Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization, will discuss 鈥淯sing, Licensing, and Distributing Copyright in a Digital Age鈥 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. in 501 Akasofu Building. 性欲社's International Arctic Research Center will host the presentation.
Rapid advancement of technology gives people easy access to information covered by copyright laws, but those laws restrict use of the material. Consequently, copyright owners frequently battle individuals, who see copyright law impinging on their liberty.
Krynicki will discuss such topics as:
鈥 What is a license?
鈥 What are the effects of copyright on software?
鈥 What are the effects of using open source software in your code base?
鈥 Can you use an image in a slide presentation, publication or poster?
鈥 Can you show a video of your research footage with copyrighted music?
鈥 Can you use others' material to create a course pack for your students to use?
