Rural Alaska Honors Institute awarded $150,000 grant

��’ Rural Alaska Honors Institute has received a $150,000 grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to support student and program costs.

The Rural Talent Initiative grant will help cover RAHI costs, including transportation, housing, food, salaries and books. The ��-based summer program was founded in 1983 to prepare rural and Alaska Native high school students for academic excellence and college success.

“Students from rural Alaska are at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing and succeeding at universities,” said Brianna Pauling, RAHI program manager. “The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation grant will help us give about 100 students a leg up over the next two years.”

RAHI 2020 program dates are May 26-July 10. The RAHI application will be posted online on Jan. 1. More information is available at or by email at uaf-rahi@alaska.edu.
