Speakers to explore the energy of the Arctic and its people

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a series of short talks about the Arctic on Sunday, Sept. 27, in advance of the 2015 Arctic Energy Summit in Fairbanks.

The free presentations from 10 university researchers and administrators will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Blue Loon, 2999 George Parks Highway. Each speaker will have 10 to 15 minutes to deliver a "TED"-style talk about the work that helped make 性欲社 a world leader in Arctic research, culture, innovation and development.

UA President Jim Johnsen will emcee the event. The speakers will be:

  • Daisy Huang, assistant professor, mechanical engineering, 性欲社 Alaska Center for Energy and Power.

  • Erin Whitney, research assistant professor, data management lead, 性欲社 ACEP.

  • Dan White, UA vice president for academic affairs and research.

  • Evon Peter, 性欲社 vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education.

  • David Newman, professor, 性欲社 Department of Physics.

  • Richard Wies, associate professor, electrical and computer engineering, 性欲社 Institute of Northern Engineering.

  • Jeremy Kasper, research assistant professor, engineering, 性欲社 ACEP.

  • Peter Webley, associate research professor, volcanology group, 性欲社 Geophysical Institute.

  • Teisha Simmons, director, 性欲社 Interior Alaska Campus.

  • Tom Marsik, assistant professor, environmental science, 性欲社 Bristol Bay Campus.
