Spirit of KUAC awarded to the late Bob Fischer
April 2, 2020

KUAC has named the late Bob Fischer as the 2020 鈥淪pirit of KUAC鈥 recipient.
Fischer had been selected as the public broadcasting station鈥檚 volunteer of the year prior to his death in January, and the team decided to honor him posthumously.
鈥淏ob selflessly dedicated many years to ensuring that KUAC listeners had a front-row seat for performances that delighted and inspired so many,鈥 said Gretchen Gordon, KUAC鈥檚 interim general manager. 鈥淲e miss his vast knowledge, his passion and his commitment to KUAC and to our community.鈥
Fischer began volunteering at KUAC FM in 1991, hosting 鈥淢usic of the Golden Ages.鈥 Upon his retirement from the National Weather Service, he amped up his volunteer duties at KUAC, hosting Monday鈥檚 鈥淎fternoon Concert鈥 and filling in any shifts as needed.
A passionate and enthusiastic expert on baroque music, Fischer spent hours researching and noting details to share with KUAC FM listeners. 鈥淭hat type of dedication in a volunteer is unprecedented,鈥 said Lori Neufeld, KUAC鈥檚 coordinator of volunteers and music director. 鈥淗e found such joy in music, and he loved to share that; it was infectious.
鈥淏ob had listeners and fans far and wide, and it delighted Bob to know that others shared his passion.鈥
