Psychiatrist to talk about suicide prevention

A mental health program director from the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University will share his expertise on child and adolescent psychiatry with a lecture and a class on the Fairbanks campus.
Dr. Shashank Joshi is the hospital's director of training in child and adolescent psychiatry and director of the School Mental Health Team. His talk, titled 鈥淐ulturally Adapted School-Based Suicide Prevention in Youth,鈥 will explore issues such as depression in teens, developmental tasks in adolescence and why culture matters. The event will take place at the Murie Building auditorium at 7 p.m., July 21.
Dr. Joshi will also teach a course, Mental Health Challenges in the Classroom, through 性欲社 Summer Sessions. The course is offered on July 22鈥25. It will investigate depression in teens, school-based suicide prevention, and classroom culture and teaching traumatized youth. To register, visit
