Summer Sessions: Upcoming events

Summer Sessions is hosting a variety of lectures, movies and concerts this week. All events will take place at the Murie Building Auditorium or otherwise noted.
Wednesday, June 19
5:30- 6:30 p.m. 鈥 Activity: Family Fitness Wednesday - Play kickball with an over-sized ball, all skill levels are welcome. This activity is organized outside the SRC. In case of rain, an alternate activity will be planned inside the SRC.
7 p.m. 鈥 Discover Alaska Lecture: 鈥淒ecoding glaciers: Revealing the secrets of how glaciers work鈥 with Dr. Martin Truffer, Professor of Physics
Thursday, June 20
7 p.m. 鈥 Film: 鈥淪peakers for the Dead" (2000). Reveals some of the hidden history of Blacks in Canada. In the 1930s in rural Ontario, a farmer buried the tombstones of a Black cemetery to make way for a potato patch. 50 min.
7 p.m. 鈥 Concert: 鈥淲ill Putnam & Trudy Heffernen鈥 Will and Trudy collaborate to form Trill Music Productions. They are known for their original Alaskan acoustic, folk and authentic bluegrass music (at the Georgeson Botanical Garden)

7 p.m. 鈥 Family Cultural Nights: "The 21st Century Ghana: Life of a Ghanaian" with Alex Amegashie
Tuesday, June 25
7 p.m. 鈥 Healthy Living Lecture: 鈥淧atients as Partners: Achieving exceptional care with representatives with the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital's Denali Center. Gena Edminston, chief nursing officer and associate administrator, and Teri Kiss, director, Medical Unit-2 South and Patient Quality Resources Department will present the lecture.

7 p.m. 鈥 Discover Alaska Lecture: 鈥淎laskan Brain Foods: What to eat to slow aging and neurodegeneration鈥 with Dr. Barbara Taylor, Professor of Biology
Thursday, June 27
7 p.m. 鈥 Film: 鈥淗ard Rider" (1972). This documentary follows the rodeo circuit as experienced by Canadian world-champion cowboy Kenny McLean. 58 min.
7 p.m. 鈥 Concert: 鈥淪usan Grace 鈥 An Alaskan Troubadour鈥 With a strong rich voice and acoustic guitar, Grace sings her original songs blending traditional with contemporary styles and rhythms. (At the Georgeson Botanical Garden)
