Local coffee roasters and caf茅s will show off their specialty items Friday, Nov. 17, at the 2017 Roast and Boast, an event organized by students in a University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Management marketing class.

The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Northrim Bank鈥檚 Fairbanks Financial Center, 360 Merhar Avenue.

For the sixth year, the School of Management has partnered with Northrim Bank to host this community event, which features music, baked goods, fresh pressed juices and plenty of hot beverages.

Six businesses will showcase their creations at the event: Bagels & Brew, Diving Duck at Lunch Caf茅 & Eatery, Go Wild Superfood Caf茅 and Juicery, Little Owl Caf茅, North Pole Coffee Roasting Co., and Sipping Streams Tea Co. All participants donated homemade baked goods or gift certificates for the door prizes, and the first 100 attendees will receive a special 鈥済oodie bag.鈥 The grand prize is a Viper remote start system from Street Sounds.

Students in the Principles of Marketing class helped organize and market the event, gaining organizational management, budgeting, team-building and event-planning experience.

Mitchell Brower is a senior majoring in business administration and part of the student team working on the class project. 鈥淚鈥檝e learned quite a bit while doing this project,鈥 said Brower. 鈥淚 knew there was a lot that went into hosting and throwing an event, but I didn鈥檛 realize there was quite as much as we鈥檝e been doing. I鈥檓 anxious to see the actual night of the event, because we鈥檝e put so much work in, and I think that will probably be my favorite part of the project.鈥
