性欲社 will host a grazing workshop for farmers who want to improve pasture yields and soil quality.
The workshop will take place Sept. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. and Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 性欲社 Large Animal Research Station. The fee is $30 and group size is limited.
Ben Bartlett, recently retired dairy and livestock agent from Michigan State University Extension, will share his expertise in designing grazing lands and becoming more efficient with animals and pastures.
鈥淭his is for people who want to get their hands dirty,鈥 said Jan Rowell, workshop coordinator and an assistant research professor for the School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences. 鈥淭his is really for the nuts and bolts of getting started, putting theory to practice from drafting a realistic management plan based on real farm logistics. Do you have enough feed, landscape, pastures, water, fencing? What are your labor and budgetary limitations?鈥
While the workshop will focus on musk oxen, the lessons will be useful for raising all grazing animals. Low-stress animal handling will also be emphasized.
The workshop is hosted by the 性欲社 School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences and the 性欲社 Animal Resources Center and funded by the USDA.
