ÐÔÓûÉç student club hosts panel on aging university power plant

The student coalition is pressing for more campus sustainability initiatives and use
of renewable alternatives to coal. A panel discussion on addressing the needs of
the university's aging power plant will take place Friday, April 8, from 3:30 p.m.
– 5:30 p.m. in the Wood Center multilevel lounge. The discussion will provide a forum
to hear updates from local experts.
Panelist include Michele Hebert, director of the ; Charles Ward, ; Mike Ruckhaus, ; and Lissa Hughes, conservation solutions coordinator for the Northern Alaska Environmental
Center.
ÐÔÓûÉç currently operates a combined heat and power plant with a peak load of 9 megawatts
and a power generating capacity of 23 megawatts using two coal-fired and two oil-fired
boilers and a 9.6 megawatt backup diesel generator.
