ÐÔÓûÉç to celebrate Purple Heart recognition with open house
September 28, 2018

ÐÔÓûÉç will celebrate its new designation as a Purple Heart campus during an open house for the ÐÔÓûÉç Department of Military and Veteran Services on Oct. 4.
The newly established DMVS will host the celebration from 4-6 p.m. at the Signers’ Hall lobby. The event will include a proclamation from the Military Order of the Purple Heart that will recognize ÐÔÓûÉç as Alaska’s only Purple Heart campus. There will also be tours of the DMVS and ROTC offices and comments from several speakers, including Chancellor Daniel White.
The Purple Heart Medal is awarded to members of the U.S. military who have been wounded or killed in combat. As a Purple Heart campus, ÐÔÓûÉç encourages students, staff and faculty to show appreciation and support for this distinguished honor. Several parking spaces on campus have been designated for Purple Heart recipients.
The DMVS provides a variety of coordinated services for veterans during their time at ÐÔÓûÉç. Those efforts include help with educational benefits earned through military service, peer mentoring and paperwork. The department, located at Room 104 of ÐÔÓûÉç’s Eielson Building, also gives veteran students a place where they can connect with other veterans.
