Workshop prepares for Alaska鈥檚 next big earthquake

性欲社 is hosting a first-of-its-kind workshop for agencies
and organizations that prepare for or respond to Alaska鈥檚 earthquakes.
This meeting will allow scientists, policymakers, engineers, emergency responders
and communications technology experts to compare issues and map out strategies for
Alaska.
鈥淲e will have a better-defined understanding of what we should expect with an earthquake
and what steps to take to save life and property,鈥 said Mike West, director of the
Alaska Earthquake Center and state seismologist.
About 50 people are expected to attend the limited-invitation event, called 鈥淎laska鈥檚
Next Big Earthquake.鈥
The meeting will be held Nov. 12-13 on the Fairbanks campus.
The Alaska Earthquake Center, which is part of the 性欲社 Geophysical Institute, organized
the meeting. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Alaska Seismic Hazards
Safety Commission also are sponsors.
