Discover Alaska lecture series starts June 5

性欲社 will host the Discover Alaska lecture series starting on June 5. This year鈥檚 lectures feature scientists whose research explores various aspects of Alaska.
The series is presented by 性欲社 Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning in cooperation with 性欲社鈥檚 Institute of Arctic Biology.
The free public lectures will be at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building on the 性欲社 Troth Yeddha鈥 Campus. Parking on campus is free after 5 p.m.
The presentations will also be livestreamed on the and made available as recordings online within two weeks of the live event.
This year鈥檚 Discover Alaska lineup includes:
- June 5 鈥 鈥淥verwintering in the Arctic: Animal Strategies for Surviving the 鈥楲ong, Cold and Dark,鈥欌 Brian Barnes, professor of zoophysiology
- June 12 鈥 鈥淐hanging Interactions Among Alaska鈥檚 Wildlife, People and Environment,鈥 Todd Brinkman, associate professor of wildlife ecology
- June 19 鈥 鈥淏erries in a Changing Climate: Threats and Opportunities,鈥 Christa Mulder, professor of plant ecology
- June 26 鈥 鈥淐leaning Up Contaminants with Native Plants and Microbes,鈥 Mary Beth Leigh, professor of microbiology
- July 10 鈥 鈥淔ood, Nutrition and Health in Alaska,鈥 Andrea Bersamin, professor of nutrition
- July 17 鈥 鈥淢easuring Methane from Alaska to Mars,鈥 Eug茅nie Euskirchen, associate professor of ecology, and Mahmooda Sultana, instrument scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center鈥檚 Planetary Environments Laboratory
- July 24 鈥 鈥淗erbivores and the Structure and Function of Alaska鈥檚 Boreal Forests,鈥 Knut Kielland, professor of ecology
- July 31 鈥 鈥淗ibernation for Space Torpor and Remote Emergency Medicine,鈥 Kelly Drew, professor of chemistry and biochemistry
- Aug. 7 鈥 鈥淟ongevity and Senescence: Are Maximum Lifespans of Whales Longer Than We Believe?鈥 Greg Breed, associate professor of quantitative ecology
- Aug. 14 鈥 鈥淭ools for Life: Alaska Native Solutions to End Suicide,鈥 Stacy Rasmus, director, Center for Alaska Native Health Research
