Programs
The Alaska Native Language Center offers academic programs ranging from certificates to bachelors degrees. Our programs promote language revitalization, community connections, and intergenerational learning.
Students who pursue their education through the ANLC may be employed as Native language instructors or language specialists for school districts or Native organizations, become language advocates in their communities, or pass down their Language knowledge to future generations.

Certificate Programs
The Native language education program trains teachers of Native language and culture,
providing course work in Athabascan, Inupiaq or Yup鈥檌k. The certificate and degree
are recognized by some Alaska school districts and serve as steps toward a four-year
degree.
Candidates for the Yup鈥檌k option must score advanced oral proficiency on an oral proficiency
exam before being admitted into the program.
The Yup鈥檌k language proficiency program is designed to provide students with the opportunity
to pursue structured study of Yup鈥檌k in order to develop intermediate-level speaking

us, and our place in it.
