Genghis Khan: Fact, Fiction and Film

Discover the legendary life of Genghis Khan through history and film at this special event hosted by the 性欲社 Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. Dr. Viktor Shmagin from the 性欲社 Department of History will introduce Mongol (2007), an epic portrayal of the rise of the Mongol Empire by director Sergei Bodrov. Attendees will receive handouts featuring primary sources, including excerpts from The Secret History of the Mongols, providing deeper historical context. A discussion will follow, offering a chance to analyze the film鈥檚 portrayal of one of history鈥檚 most influential leaders.
About Viktor Shmagin
Viktor Shmagin is an Assistant Professor of History at 性欲社. His research examines early modern Japan-Russia-Ainu relations, focusing especially on the influence of imperialism in this dynamic. He teaches courses on premodern and modern East Asia, Japan, China, maritime Northeast Asia.
Phi Alpha Theta
Phi Alpha Theta is the national history honors society at 性欲社, dedicated to promoting the study of history and fostering scholarly research. Open to students from all disciplines, the society encourages the exploration of various historical fields and provides members with opportunities to present research at conferences, receive a subscription to The Historian, and engage with like-minded individuals.
