Russia's Historical Fate: Mapping Space, Time, and Salvation in Patriarch Kirill's Sermons
The ÐÔÓûÉç Linguistics Program invites you to Brooke Barton’s MA thesis defense, where she examines the linguistic construction of a Russian Orthodox cosmological space-time within Patriarch Kirill’s sermons given in Moscow in 2022. This study explores how these sermons, delivered leading up to and during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, shape perceptions of history, fate, and salvation within the Russian Orthodox framework.
The defense will take place on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in Bunnell Building, Room 302, with a Zoom option available for remote attendees.
